Adult Vaccination
Adult vaccination is the practice of administering vaccines to adults to protect them from preventable diseases. As people age, their immune systems can weaken, making them more susceptible to infections and complications from diseases like the flu, pneumonia, shingles & hepatitis. Vaccination in adults not only protects individual health but also helps prevent the spread of contagious diseases, particularly in high-risk populations. Vaccines may be recommended based on age, health, and lifestyle factors.
Common adult vaccines include the annual flu vaccine, the pneumonia vaccine PPSV23 or PCV13, the shingles vaccine Zoster, and the tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis Tdap vaccine. Some adults may also need the human papillomavirus HPV vaccine, hepatitis vaccines, or vaccines for travel-related diseases. Vaccination is a critical part of preventive healthcare, and regular check-ups with a healthcare provider can help determine which vaccines are needed to keep adults protected as they age.
